Aluminum Alloy 7075 (UNS A97075) possesses fine corrosion resistance. This alloy offers the highest level of strength among common screw machine alloys. Its strength increases when exposed to subzero temperatures which turn them into a useful low-temperature alloy. On the other hand, at high temperatures, its strength decreases.
As one of the highest strength alloys, aluminum alloy 7075 exhibits average machinability and good fatigue strength. It has poor weldability and has less resistance to corrosion compared aluminum alloy. But it can be welded with the use of resistance welding method. Gas welding method is NOT preferable for this kind of alloy as well as arc welding as this will result in the material to degrade its corrosion resistance property.
This aluminum alloy is machined in its annealed condition. Upon performing machining operations, oil lubricants are used. When it comes to cold working, the alloy is machined through the use of conventional methods in its soft and annealed condition.
