Copper alloy 110, also referred to as Alloy C11000, is known to have the highest electrical conductivity among all metals except silver. It is also referred to as electrolytic tough pitch (ETP) copper. The characteristics it has to make it useful in the electric current carrying applications.
This copper grade is almost a pure copper with that has an electrical conductivity rating of 100+ % IACS. Copper alloy 110 is considered versatile across a wide range of applications due to its exceptional conductivity, ductility, and corrosion resistance. This copper can produce an impermeable protective film which forms a familiar green patina of a weathered copper.
This copper grade has poor machinability rating of about 20% compared to C360 Brass at 100%. Yet, this copper alloy got exceptional hot and cold forming qualities. As a tough pitch alloy, these copper alloys suffer from embrittlement or gassing when being heated in decreasing temperature – thus, they cannot be easily welded or brazed. This is because hydrogen reacts with the oxide that is present in the metal to form steam and this can cause cracking. However, oxygen-free copper alloys are made especially for welding operations. Soldering is better with 110 copper.
